No. While it offers broad chemical resistance, exceptions do exist. Material selection also depends on operating temperature, pressure, mechanical stresses, and its specific function within the valve or assembly.

PROCESS FLUIDS
Selecting the Right Valve for Your Process Fluid
Solvents, abrasive slurries, and crystallizing media place vastly different demands on a valve. VAMECA leverages deep technical expertise to align your specific fluid dynamics with the optimal port configuration, materials of construction, seating options, and actuation systems.

Flow control, sealing, and actuation
Examples of ball valves. A stainless steel body is a primary baseline. Seats, seals, and overall construction must also be engineered to withstand the specific service fluid.
Corrosion · Viscosity · Solids · Scaling
REAL-WORLD OPERATING CONDITIONS
Four Critical Scenarios That Impact Valve Selection
Corrosion attacks materials, viscosity impedes flow, and particulates wear down or clog flow paths. Differentiating between these mechanisms is essential to guiding design and construction before selecting a valve model.
Corrosive Fluid
Specify the media components, their concentration, impurities, and operating temperature. A material compatible with a cold, dilute product may fail under different operating conditions.
Viscous Fluid
Viscosity fluctuates with temperature. Be sure to also document start-up, extended shutdowns, and cleaning cycles. Bore size, pressure drop, and operating torque must be carefully evaluated.
Slurry / particulate-laden fluid
The size, hardness, shape, and concentration of solids all matter. Fine slurries, fibrous media, and abrasive particles each demand tailored valve designs.
Fluids prone to scaling or crystallization
Internal cavity volumes, media stagnation, and thermal cycling can compromise valve actuation. Contact our local technical team for an in-depth flow path analysis, along with flushing and heat-tracing solutions.
UNDERSTANDING THE APPLICATION
Three Distinct Verification Checks Not to Be Confused
When comparing two technologies, independently evaluate chemical compatibility, flow characteristics, and wear resistance. Meeting only one of these criteria does not validate the complete valve assembly.
Wetted Materials
The body, lining, seat, diaphragm, and seals must all be thoroughly inspected. The material stamped on the body alone does not represent the complete assembly.
The intended function
An isolation valve is selected for on/off service, whereas a control valve must also accurately modulate flow across its entire operating range.
Transient Conditions
Be sure to factor in flushing, cleaning agents, potential vacuum conditions, and temperature fluctuations. These operating phases can often be more demanding on equipment than standard production.

Application example. Configuration and equipment to be specified based on your installation requirements.
SELECTABLE TECHNOLOGIES
Pairing valve design with primary operating stress
Lined Tapered Plug
For certain corrosive or scaling media, a cavity-free design with a PFA/PTFE lining may be the ideal solution. AZ delivers this robust architecture. Final selection depends on the precise process fluid, operating temperature, vacuum conditions, and lining specifications.
Ball valve
A full-port design can be advantageous for positive isolation and minimizing pressure drops. However, it is essential to evaluate body cavities, seat design, and operating torque with your actual media. A standard ball valve is not an off-the-shelf solution for crystallizing media.
Knife gate, pinch, or diaphragm
These valve families meet specific requirements for slurries, suspensions, or shear-sensitive fluids. Verify solid-particle clearance, differential pressure, shut-off direction, and sleeve or diaphragm resistance. Please note that not all configurations are designed for throttling service.
Dedicated Process Control
A globe, segmented ball, or control ball valve must be precisely sized for the specific media and flow range. Trim selection accounts for erosion, particulate build-up, potential cavitation, and permissible shut-off leakage rates.
MATERIALS & SEALING SOLUTIONS
Assess the material, then the complete assembly
A compatibility table serves as an initial selection guide. It does not replace engineering validation of media concentration, temperature, chemical mixtures, or the specific grade selected. Cleaning fluids must also be detailed in your application requirements.
For commercial products or blends, please attach the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) along with the process data. The pH level alone is insufficient for proper material selection.
MAINTENANCE & REPLACEMENT
This symptom helps streamline your next selection
Selection Example · Valve Seizing After Shutdown
A media flows properly during production, but the valve becomes difficult to operate once cooled. The technical documentation must detail the viscosity curve, the risk of crystallization, and any dead zones where fluid can stagnate. Simply increasing the actuator torque does not necessarily address the root cause.
Premature seat wear
Document solid contents and flow velocity, then distinguish between abrasion, erosion, and chemical attack.
Leakage despite a new seal
Inspect the compound, seal geometry, surface finish, and installation. Additionally, verify the compatibility between the process fluid and the cleaning agent.
Increasing torque
Record the operating temperature, cycling frequency, and valve condition following actuation. Do not oversize the actuator without first verifying the stem's mechanical integrity.
