Not without specific validation. Oxygen service requires a thorough verification of all materials, cleanliness levels, and operating conditions. Nominal pressure and body metal alone are not sufficient.

Industrial Gas Valves: Engineered Selection by Process Service
Whether dealing with nitrogen, argon, oxygen, hydrogen, or process gas mixtures, the specific gas properties drive your selection criteria. VAMECA delivers the technical expertise to define your operating conditions, evaluate valve designs, and streamline procurement for valves, regulators, and sealing solutions.
Technical Selection · Supplying Quebec and Canada

VINCO · Valves for Gas Service
Media specification must include composition, purity, moisture levels, and pressure conditions. Compatibility ratings specified for a pure gas do not automatically apply to gas mixtures.
Compatibility depends on the specific gas, operating conditions, and selected valve design configuration.
REAL-WORLD OPERATING CONDITIONS
Requirements that vary depending on the gas media
For an inerting line, process gas, or equipment feed, specify the complete operating conditions. Equipment designed for compressed air does not serve as a universal baseline for other gas applications.
Nitrogen and Argon
An inerting line requires flow rate and pressure tailored to your process. Specific requirements for gas purity, allowable leakage rates, and emissions control remain to be defined.
Oxygen
Material compatibility, cleanliness, lubricants, and pressurization conditions must be thoroughly validated for oxygen service. Selecting the right metal alone is not enough.
Hydrogen and Flammable Gases
Valve selection requires validation tailored to the specific gas, operating pressures, and materials of construction. Actuation packages and fail-safe positions are likewise dictated by comprehensive system analysis.
Corrosive, toxic, or liquefied gases
Media composition, trace moisture, and the actual fluid phase become critical factors. Gas lines, liquid lines, and cryogenic services each demand dedicated engineering selections.
UNDERSTANDING THE APPLICATION
Three functions to be specified separately
The operating requirement must clearly distinguish between positive isolation, pressure maintenance, and equipment protection. These critical functions are not interchangeable.

Application example. Configuration and equipment to be specified based on your installation requirements.
Isolate
Specify the required seat tightness, cycling frequency, actuation type, and fail-safe position.
Regulate
Provide the upstream and downstream pressures, as well as the flow rate and its reference conditions. Verify the regulator curve for the specific gas media and operating range.
Protect
Identify the overpressure scenario, the equipment requiring protection, and the discharge handling. Sizing and selecting the right relief valve requires these critical design parameters.
MATERIALS & SEALING SOLUTIONS
Validate the entire gas-wetted system
The body, trim, seat, stem packing, gaskets, and lubricants all contribute to service fitness. Simply specifying "stainless steel" or "PTFE" is not enough to fully qualify a complete valve assembly.
For critical service, request written confirmation of the configuration's suitability. A material test report or pressure rating does not replace this verification.
SELECTABLE TECHNOLOGIES
Select the construction after defining the service application
Isolation Valves
Ball, globe, or bellows-sealed valve designs serve distinct operational requirements. Gas compatibility, pressure ratings, seating materials, and testing standards must be verified against the proposed model.
Pressure Reducing Valves
An adjustable range does not guarantee stability across all flow rates. Refer to manufacturer performance curves to verify downstream pressure variations and the impact of supply fluctuations.
Actuated Control Valves
For process-controlled flow or pressure, please specify the signal, available power supply, operating range, and fail-safe position. Selection applies to the complete valve and actuator assembly.
Check Valves and System Protection
A check valve prevents backflow under designed operating conditions. A relief valve activates in response to an overpressure scenario. Neither component eliminates the need to thoroughly assess your complete system and its documentation requirements.
MAINTENANCE & REPLACEMENT
Replacing a part number without compromising on your specifications
Selection Example · Replacing a Nitrogen Pressure Regulator
The existing pressure regulator meets the setpoint at low flow rates, but pressure drops during process demand. To plan an effective replacement, we require your consumption curve, upstream pressure variations, and the acceptable downstream range. Matching end connections does not guarantee equivalent control performance.
Gas network operations and leak testing comply with site procedures and equipment specifications.
Downstream pressure drift
Document conditions at zero flow and under active consumption. Differentiate between maintenance requirements and sizing limitations.
Stem or Connection Leakage
Identify the affected area, part number, and known materials. Avoid substituting a seal or gasket based solely on its dimensions.
Incomplete Documentation
Gather the nameplate, datasheet, test report, and project specifications. Code and registration requirements (such as CRN) are verified based on the specific site location and service conditions.
