The PEX is manually operated, while the PEAX features a normally closed pneumatic actuator. Select automated configurations can be outfitted with a manual override lever and a limit switch box.
Selecting Sampling and Sterilization Solutions
PEX and PEAX valves are designed to draw product samples for quality control purposes. The selection process begins with the sterilization method, followed by product specifications, operating pressure during sampling, and connection type. VAMECA provides the technical expertise to help you identify the optimal configuration for your facility. Providing a photo of your existing valve alongside its part number also streamlines the identification of replacement diaphragms, discs, and other spare parts.
Manual or pneumatic actuation
PEX for manual operation. PEAX for integrating sampling into an automated sequence.
Two Sterilization Methods
Single-port configuration for flame applications or dual-port design for steam and cleaning solutions.
Application-Specific Sealing Solutions
Elastomer diaphragm or PFA disc available depending on sampling and cleaning conditions.
Multiple Connection Options
Select the fitting based on your existing tank or piping configuration and space accessibility constraints.
Configure sampling setup
The actuation method and number of flow paths represent two distinct design criteria. They do not substitute for verifying pressure ratings and sealing integrity.
Actuation and Sterilization
Manual PEX
Handle with travel stops. For flame sterilization, the manual specifies a stainless steel handle.
Automatic PEAX
Normally closed pneumatic actuator. Manual override lever and Sorio switch box available depending on configuration.
Versions 1 and 2
Single-port PEX1 and PEAX1 for flame applications. Two-way PEX2 and PEAX2 for steam or cleaning solutions.
Construction and Operating Conditions
Bodies and Seals
Single-piece 316L stainless steel body. Diaphragms available in VMQ, EPDM, FKM, or acid-resistant FKM. PFA disc paired with EPDM or FKM.
Sizes and End Connections
Sizes 6/8, 10/12, and 16/18. Available in welded, BSP/G thread, or clamp connections depending on the configuration. Please note that BSP/G threads are not compatible with NPT.
Sampling Pressure
The catalogue differentiates between static and dynamic ratings. Under dynamic conditions, limits range from 2 to 5 bar, depending on size and seal configuration. Relying solely on the 10-bar static rating is not sufficient for proper selection.
Need to replace or add a sampling valve? We will assess your mounting, actuation, and sealing requirements with you. A photo of your installation is all we need to get started, even without the complete part numbers.
OPERATION AND DOCUMENTATION
Integrating sampling into the process
Sampling procedures must account for product quality, operator accessibility, and the cleaning cycle.
Selecting the Right Method
Please specify the on-site procedure used. A configuration suitable for steam sterilization is not rated for continuous steam service.
Track PEAX status
The Sorio switch box complements pneumatic actuation with precise position feedback. The protocol is selected to integrate seamlessly with your control system.
Identify Wear Parts
Identify the model, size, and seal material prior to requesting replacement parts. Cleaning conditions are just as critical as the media being sampled.
