ARI-FABA: Bellows-Sealed Globe Valves for Industrial Isolation

ARI FABA stop valves are engineered for open/close on-off service in process lines. Their metallic bellows seal isolates the stem from the process media, mitigating the risk of fugitive emissions—especially in steam systems and thermal fluid circuits. Designed strictly for on-off isolation, these shut-off valves are not intended to replace a control valve when accurate flow modulation is required. Count on VAMECA’s technical expertise to help you select the ideal configuration, end connections, materials, and options tailored to your specific operating conditions.

01

Stem Sealing

The metal bellows isolates the process media from the stem outlet. A secondary graphite packing provides an added safety barrier, offering dependable protection particularly for steam and thermal fluid systems.

02

Metal-to-Metal Seating

The conical plug provides positive shut-off against a metal seat. For the Supra MD, ARI specifies a Stellite seat and Class A seat leakage rate in accordance with EN 12266-1.

03

Visual Valve Position Indication

On FABA Plus and Supra I ANSI models, the position indicator comes standard. It enables visual verification of the valve position during routine maintenance rounds and servicing.

THE RIGHT PRODUCT FOR THE RIGHT APPLICATION

THE RIGHT CHOICE, FIRST TIME

Selecting the Right FABA Valve: ASME Class, PN Ratings, Materials, and End Connections

Size isn't the only factor: properly distinguish ASME Class ratings from PN designations, then evaluate differential pressure, design temperature, and body material.

Selection Criteria

Pressure / Temperature

The FABA Plus and Supra I are available with ASME flanged ends in Class 150 and 300. The Supra MD is offered in PN 63, 100, and 160 ratings in accordance with the DIN/EN standard. Maximum allowable pressure also depends on operating temperature and material selection.

Body Materials

The flanged ANSI configurations shown feature SA216 WCB cast steel. The Supra MD is also available in 1.0460 forged steel, 1.0619+N cast steel, and high-temperature alloy steels.

Connection Type

The FABA Plus and Supra I ANSI models feature ASME flanges and face-to-face dimensions engineered for their specific pressure class. The Supra MD is available with DIN/EN flanges or butt-weld ends; please note that these end connections are not directly interchangeable.

Sealing and Operations

Stem Bellows

Emergency Packing

A pure graphite packing backs up the primary bellows seal on ANSI Plus/Supra I configurations and the Supra MD line.

Operation and Maintenance

The FABA Plus features a non-rising handwheel with a position indicator, while the Supra MD is engineered with a rising handwheel. Balanced plugs ensure smooth, reliable operation on select high differential pressure configurations.

Provide us with the NPS or DN, media, pressure, temperature, differential pressure, and desired connection type. VAMECA will direct you to the ideal FABA design and all relevant technical documentation.

BY FLUID & PROCESS

BY FLUID & PROCESS

Where should an ARI-FABA stop valve be used?

From boiler plants to process piping networks, the key advantage of the FABA valve is dependable isolation achieved through a metal bellows stem seal. The selected series is engineered to match your specific pressure, temperature, and media requirements.

Industrial Steam

For steam systems, FABA Plus and Supra I offer ASME Class 150 and 300 flanged options. FABA Supra MD is engineered for PN 63 to 160 installations, specifically for boiler plants and power generation facilities.

For steam systems, the FABA Plus and Supra I are available in Class 150/300 ratings, while the Supra MD is engineered for PN 63–160 applications—delivering proven performance specifically for boiler houses and power generation facilities.

Thermal Oil

The metal bellows seal minimizes external thermal fluid leakage at the stem. The pressure class, body material grade, and pressure-temperature rating are critical for high-temperature loops.

OPERATION & EQUIPMENT

OPERATION AND ISOLATION

Manual Operation, Actuation, and Integration of FABA Bellows-Sealed Valves

A FABA is an isolation valve, not a control valve. ARI provides detailed documentation on manual operators, position indicators, and actuation options for select configurations.

Cutaway view of the ARI FABA bellows-sealed globe valve

MANUAL

Handwheel Operated

On the FABA Plus, the handwheel is non-rising with a position indicator. The Supra MD features a rising handwheel and an outside screw and yoke (OS&Y) design.

ACTUATION

Custom actuation solutions

FABA Supra valves can be fitted with actuators. In particular, ARI documents a pneumatic actuator designed to automate shut-off operations across industrial piping systems.

The FABA Supra series supports actuator retrofitting, and ARI documentation also highlights the FA pneumatic actuator. Selection depends on your specific torque requirements and differential pressure.

INTEGRATION

Installation and Accessories

To replace a valve, specify the pressure class, face-to-face dimensions, and connection type. FABA ANSI configurations utilize ASME flanged ends, while the Supra MD series is documented with standard DIN/EN connections.

On North American installations, be sure to verify flange ratings and face-to-face dimensions prior to replacing any valve. FABA ANSI valves feature ASME connections, while the Supra MD is specified in DIN/EN standards.

How to Select the Right ARI FABA Valve

Selecting the right model involves more than just nominal diameter. Four technical criteria guide the proper selection of a FABA valve and its seamless integration into your existing system.

Metal bellows

Pressure and Temperature

FABA Plus and Supra I: flanged versions available in ASME Class 150 or 300. Supra MD: DIN/EN designs available in PN 63, 100, or 160. Maximum allowable pressure is also dependent on temperature and body material.

Pressure Classes

End Connections and Overall Dimensions

ASME or DIN/EN flanges, NPT threading, and welded connections are available depending on the product line. For replacements, face-to-face dimensions and operational clearance must also match your existing installation.

End Connections

Differential Pressure

At high differential pressures, specific diameters require a balanced plug to facilitate opening. ARI therefore designates a required flow direction: the actual ΔP is a critical selection criterion.
