Flexitallic Flexicarb NR

Flexitallic Flexicarb NR, also known as RGS 1, is a high-purity exfoliated graphite sheet reinforced with a 13 µm nickel foil insert. Flexitallic Product Data Sheet PDS133 specifies a polychloroprene adhesive, contrary to select legacy general guides that reference a different formulation.

Our Quebec facility manufactures custom-cut flat gaskets to your exact specifications. VAMECA can also evaluate the supply of this part number or engineer a suitable replacement.

Graphite Reinforcement and Construction

Flexicarb NR, also designated as RGS 1, differs from stainless steel-reinforced Flexicarb variants. It features an ultra-thin 13 µm nickel foil core bonded with a polychloroprene adhesive (per technical data sheet PDS133) between the expanded graphite layers.

Applications and Temperature Limits

Manufacturer documentation specifies steam service and various compatible chemicals, offering a distinct advantage for cut gaskets requiring easy fabrication and profile shaping. Legacy technical sheets state maximum ratings of 370°C in oxidizing atmospheres, 1,000°C in inert media, and 150 bar as non-concurrent limits. Always verify these parameters against current technical documentation before specifying for critical service.

Planning a Gasket Replacement

The nickel reinforcement, its minimal gauge, and the adhesive system make NR fundamentally different from stainless steel-reinforced graphite sheet materials such as Flexicarb SR or FGL316. Carefully review the precise process media, thermal cycling, atmospheric oxidation, gasket thickness, and available bolt load.

Alternative sheet constructions to evaluate: Flexitallic Flexicarb SR and Garlock GRAPH-LOCK 3125SS. These are technical alternatives, not direct drop-in equivalents.
