Flexitallic Flexicarb SR

Flexitallic Flexicarb SR is an exfoliated graphite gasket sheet with a nominal purity of 98%, bonded to a 0.05 mm flat AISI 316 stainless steel foil core. Its specific construction must be properly identified and differentiated from other Flexicarb graphite grades prior to replacement.

Our Quebec facility manufactures custom-cut flat gaskets to your exact specifications. VAMECA can also evaluate the supply of this part number or engineer a suitable replacement.

Graphite Reinforcement and Construction

Flexicarb SR, designated RGS 4, utilizes high-purity flexible graphite with a 0.05 mm flat 316 stainless steel reinforcement bonded to the graphite layers. This construction differs from perforated, tanged, or homogeneous sheet designs.

Applications and Temperature Limits

The manufacturer designs it for thermal and petrochemical process flanges as well as worn or pitted sealing faces requiring improved handleability. The legacy datasheet indicates 370°C in oxidizing atmospheres and 700°C in inert or reducing media. The legacy maximum pressure rating of 150 bar must be cross-referenced against the P/T curve and flange class. In hot inert service, atmospheric oxygen outside the flange can still cause gasket oxidation.

Preparing for a Replacement

Durlon FGL316, GRAPH-LOCK 3125SS, and KLINGER SLS share a flat-foil reinforcement design, but differ in their adhesives, material grades, and mechanical testing. Verify the exact service fluid, thermal cycling, external oxidation risks, gasket thickness, and available flange load.

Other constructions to evaluate: Durlon FGL316 and Garlock GRAPH-LOCK 3125SS. These represent functional comparisons, not direct equivalents.
