Why Carbon Does Not Mean Graphite

The LATTYcarb 96 designation refers to a sheet made of carbon and mineral fibres compressed within a synthetic binder matrix. It must not be confused with a homogeneous expanded graphite sheet or a stainless-steel-reinforced graphite. Compression mechanisms, recovery, and die-cutting suitability can differ significantly. Selection must always adhere to the manufacturer's intended construction.

Thermal Service and Limitations

Temperature or pressure limits listed independently for a compressed sheet do not define its complete operational range. LATTY offers this grade for applications requiring high thermal resistance; however, the fluid, atmosphere, and bolt-up procedure must always be verified. Stress relaxation resistance is critical when equipment is subjected to thermal cycling.

Replacement Specifications

Compare fibre blends, binder composition, mechanical properties, and bolt-load requirements. Record flange standards and dimensions, system pressures, operating temperatures, and the media. Standard aramid sheets or graphite should not be substituted without a full compatibility and gasket seating stress evaluation.

To compare constructions: LATTYcarb 96 G2F and LATTYcarb 965. Fibres, binders, and potential reinforcements vary. Verify the exact construction prior to any substitution.

KEY COMPARISON CRITERIA

LATTYcarb 96 G2F builds on the proven LATTYcarb 96 product line, replacing its non-stick treatment with a dual-sided graphite finish. LATTYgold 92 features an alternative synthetic fibre construction with an NBR-SBR binder; for high-temperature steam applications, LATTY recommends upgrading to LATTYcarb 96.
