Flexitallic SF 5001

Flexitallic SF 5001 is a non-asbestos sheet material engineered from synthetic fibres and graphite flakes within an NBR nitrile rubber binder. Despite containing graphite, it is not a homogeneous expanded graphite sheet.

Our Quebec facility manufactures custom-cut flat gaskets to your exact specifications. VAMECA can also evaluate the supply of this part number or engineer a suitable replacement.

Construction and Documented Properties

SF 5001 is a non-asbestos sheet composed of synthetic fibres and graphite flakes within an NBR nitrile rubber binder. It is not a homogeneous flexible graphite sheet, despite the presence of graphite. At 1.5 mm thickness, the typical density is 1.65 g/cm³, ASTM compressibility is 8.7%, and recovery is 62%. The manufacturer states a maximum temperature of 350°C and a maximum pressure of 100 bar, which cannot be combined simultaneously.

Applications and Service Limits

Manufacturer technical data sheet PDS309 Rev5 lists oils, fuels, steam, water, and dilute acids. It specifically recommends SF 5001 for select concentrated caustic liquors, provided chemical composition and process operating temperatures are verified.

Material Selection and Replacement Analysis

Compared to carbon and aramid fibre-based SF 5000, SF 5001 incorporates graphite flakes within a fibrous NBR sheet. An optional Sark III anti-stick coating is available upon request, but does not imply identical service ratings. The specific media, sheet thickness, flange design, and bolt load must be validated for actual operating conditions.

Comparable grades for technical evaluation: TEADIT NA1100 and Durlon 8900. These do not represent certified direct equivalents.

KEY COMPARISON CRITERIA

Compared to the carbon and aramid fibre SF 5000, the SF 5001 incorporates graphite flakes within an NBR fibre sheet. A Sark III anti-stick coating is available upon request, though it does not imply the same service performance characteristics.

SF 5001 combines synthetic fibres and graphite flake with an NBR binder. TEADIT NA1100 pairs carbon and graphite, Durlon 8900 incorporates aramid and graphite with NBR, while Flexitallic SF 5000 utilizes a blend of carbon and aramid with an NBR binder. Always evaluate mechanical properties and operating conditions before selecting the appropriate grade.
